1. Leadership and Self-Awareness
Leadership·The ability to make a group willing to move in one direction. Its core is influence, not title: titles buy compliance, influence earns followership.
Self-awareness·Knowing your emotions, style, strengths, and blind spots, and their effect on others. You cannot fix what you cannot see.
The biggest managerial illusion is self-knowledge. The higher you climb, the less honest feedback you receive. Strengths overused become liabilities: forcefulness is medicine in a crisis and poison in daily work.
2. Flex Style by Situation
Telling
+ Clear direction and close follow-up
- Builds dependency; drives strong players away
适合 New hires, new tasks, crisis moments
Coaching
+ Explains the why while teaching the how
- Slow, and demanding of the manager
适合 Willing people short on experience
Supporting
+ Listens and shares decisions, building confidence
- Slows decisions if overused
适合 Capable people short on confidence
Delegating
+ Sets outcomes and gets out of the way
- Risk of drift without real trust
适合 Proven owners and expert task forces
3. Three Moves Toward Self-Knowledge
Find mirrors
Ask for truth from peers, anonymous team input, and outside coaching: where do I make people uncomfortable?
Build a review habit
Log triggers and decisions: what makes you angry, what you do under pressure, which mistakes repeat.
Run behavior experiments
Change one concrete behavior at a time, such as interrupting less, until it becomes habit.
4. New Mirrors, New Risks
- AI can reflect you: speaking time, interruptions, and tone shifts become visible in meeting data
- Assessments are references, not verdicts; algorithms amplify existing preferences
- As tools absorb execution, judgment, empathy, and the ability to unite people become scarcer and more valuable
- Remote work magnifies misunderstanding: write things down and explain the why
5. Trust Is the Balance Sheet
Trust rests on three sources: goodwill, competence, and integrity. Competence can be learned and goodwill can be practiced, but integrity, once lost, is nearly impossible to recover. Style can flex; character cannot be faked.
